LI: To list the similarities and differences as you can between the two texts

Our task here was to compare the similarities and differences between the same story told from two different perspectives.

We read The 3 Pigs and The True story of the 3 pigs. The first text was told from the pig’s perspective and the second story was written from the perspective of the wolf.

Something I found interesting was how our opinions of the story can be changed when you listen to both perspective, which in this case was the pigs and the wolf.

Who is at Fault?

LI: To make an informed opinion

This week we have been learning about bias. Bias can be objective which means it shows only one side of the story but on the other side subjective means showing or telling both sides of the story.  We looked at the same story from different perspectives. A perspective is a opinion or viewpoint, After reading and summarising both texts we thought about and talked about the facts to help us make an informed opinion.

Our group found this activity interesting because there are many stories and many ways that the stories can be taken, yet overall it was fun to do.

Something I found interesting was how having the characters say the side of their story, made me think more about who is at fault.

Creative Sports Challenge | Twice Bat

LI: To create a new sports challenge/game for the class to play using our prior knowledge of sports.

Our group has been working on a game called “Twice Bat”, Twice Bat is quite similar to T-ball in some ways, like you have to run around in an upside down triangle until you get home, if you get home in under 8 seconds without stopping you get 40 points, (the winning point is 100).

Some of the rules of the game are,

– There can only be 6 people in each team.

– Both of the batters must hit the ball at the same time.

– The runner can only run once

We found this activity, team building and quite fun overall because, we got to get creative and use our imaginations in such a different way.

Mood and Atmosphere in Images

LI: To describe the mood and atmosphere in an image

We have been exploring the ways writers use words to create mood and atmosphere in a text. We used this knowledge to help us describe an image from WW1. I  found this activity informitive because it introduced us to new vocab and phrares to use, it also taught me a lot about our Maori history from WW1.

Quick Write – Online

LI: Use the words and language features given to write a story that makes sense in the time allowed.

Today we had a timed writing challenge to help us understand how to use a variety of language features. We worked in pairs so we needed to collaborate and share our ideas. After we finished the timed challenge our goal was to DRAFT our work and to identify where we had used the language features we were challenged to use. That means we deleted any words that we didin’t need, rearranged any words that didin’t make sense, added in words we had left out, fixed out tenses and talked about our writing to make sure it all made sense.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a leader who inspires you.

This term we have been building our leadership skills. Our challenge today was to write a cinquain poem to help us strengthen our connections to description that describes leaders who inspire us.

A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.
